Wellingborough
Wellingborough is a market town and borough in Northamptonshire, England situated some eleven miles from the county town of Northampton. The town is also situated on north side of the River Nene,[3] most of the older town is sited on the flanks of the hills above the river's flood plain.[4] The frequent flooding of the Nene's flood plain makes it obvious why the town was mostly built above the flood plain. Originally named 'Wendelingburgh', the town was founded in the early 6th century Saxon period by a Saxon leader called Waendel[5] and is mentioned in the Domesday Book under the name of Wendelburie. The town was granted a royal market charter in 1201, which was granted by King John of England.[6] Wellingborough (borough) Wellingborough is a Non-metropolitan district and borough in Northamptonshire, England. It is named after Wellingborough, its main town, but also includes surrounding rural areas. Wilby, Northamptonshire Wilby is a linear village and civil parish in the British county of Northamptonshire. It is directly south-west of the town of Wellingborough on the former trunk road the A4500 to the county town of Northampton.
